Information for travel agents

BikeToursDirect is not a tour operator, but instead represents about 50 overseas bike tour companies and relies almost entirely on commissions from them. We offer nearly all tours at the same pricing clients would get booking directly with the local tour companies.

There are four primary ways we work with travel agents.

Standard commissions

Since most tour prices are quite low – probably about a third of them less than $1,000 – and commissions are often as low as 10%, it’s not always feasible to split commissions. However, there are trips that are more expensive and with commissions as high as 20%, and we'll be adding even more high-end tours in the future. In those cases, we often can split commissions. Even where we can't offer commissions, though, we do work with many travel agents, who simply add an agency fee. They find that our prices are much lower than their clients could otherwise find. Even with an agency service fee, the client usually ends up ahead. And, of course, we can provide expertise to help you advise your clients. For an agency to receive a commission, you must act as liaison with the client and handle and address all issues relating to getting to and from the tour and all client questions. (We’ll help you but ask you to be in direct contact with your client.)

Referral fees

With the referral program, which we're in the process of implementing, we'd provide you with BikeToursDirect flyers printed with agency-specific codes. Your clients would get a discount, and you'd get a referral fee. It's fairly carefree from your perspective, in that we handle everything from inquiry through the entire booking and payment process.

Custom tours (individual)

With custom tours, we can build a commission into the tour pricing. Given our overseas contacts, even with your commission added, the clients are still getting a very competitive price. We would work either directly with the client or through you. With our extensive bike tour experience, we're pretty good at developing tours that match client needs.

Custom group tours

Much like individual tours, we'd develop a custom group tour either for an existing group or for you to promote to clients. We can build in commission and/or free trips. Because of our relationship with the overseas operators, we're usually able to have them block space on option rather than make an upfront commitment, and, again, the pricing is quite competitive. Depending on your preference, the clients can book directly with us or through you. Even if they book through us, we do have a space where they can request air quotes. We would refer these to you.
